In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a student.

According to court documents, a Penn State student named Ahmed Alqubaisi has been charged with third degree felony homicide by vehicle, as well as a first degree misdemeanour of involuntary manslaughter and a second degree misdemeanour of recklessly endangering another person.

According to a criminal complaint, the 20-year-old international student from the United Arab Emirates has been suspended from the university.

In a recent development, charges have been filed following a tragic pedestrian crash that occurred on Tuesday at approximately 8 p.m. The incident took place in the 200 block of East Park Avenue, as reported by the State College Police Department.

In a statement released by the police, it has been reported that a vehicle was observed travelling in a westbound direction on the road when it unexpectedly veered into the oncoming travel lane. Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre, a 25-year-old doctoral student from Sweden studying architectural engineering, was struck by the vehicle while jogging on the pavement.

According to the complaint, it has been reported that her body was discovered roughly 80 feet away from the location where she was initially struck on the sidewalk.

Arnesson-Cronhamre was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Centre and subsequently life flighted to UPMC Altoona.

According to the complaint, early Wednesday morning, she tragically succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

According to the complaint, the sole occupant of the car was Alqubaisi, who possessed a four-year learner’s permit from Pennsylvania. However, it was noted that Alqubaisi was not accompanied by a licenced driver.

Following his departure from the IM Building, Alqubaisi proceeded to drive in a westerly direction along East Park Avenue. According to the complaint, the road conditions were described as “rainy and the roads were wet” prior to the incident. Alqubaisi was reportedly travelling at a speed higher than what is considered safe.

Alqubaisi’s tyres made contact with the curb of the sidewalk where Arnesson-Cronhamre was jogging. As a result, Alqubaisi’s vehicle collided head-on with a water standpipe and a light pole, according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, Arnesson-Cronhamre was reportedly struck by the passenger door of the vehicle.

According to court documents, Alqubaisi has been denied bail and is presently being held in county jail. The defendant was arraigned promptly at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on September 27th.
